Student Guidelines
In order for you to enjoy your stay in America and to avoid difficult or umconfortable situations you have been given a set of guidelines and rules before your departure. In the case that one of these rules is broken you will be placed in “Warning” by your group leader. Please, read the section “Warning” of your “Guía del Estudiante” to ensure you fully understand this matter.
1. You are expected to attend all classes or activities unless your host family has something else planned for you. Please notify your group leader/coordinator if this is the case.
2. You must follow your host family rules, adapt to their habits and help with the house chores. Your host family is not a hotel. Failure to adapt to the new environment and showing lack of respect could be a cause of early return.
3. You must speak English at all times with your teacher, group leader, coordinator and your friends.
4. Mobile phones should be used moderately e.g. as a way of communication at a certain time or for emergency calls. If a student uses the phone incorrectly, this will be taken away by the group lea- der. You can’t use the mobile during classes or visits. The host family is not required to give the Wi-Fi code.
5. Illegal use of Internet by minors could be a cause of early return.
6. Students are not allowed to travel outside the local area either alone or with other teenagers.
7. You must respect all decisions made by the American Organi- zation and/or the Spanish group leader.
8. Students should always wear appropiate clothing.
9. In case the group or a student has a bad behaviour, the local coordinator and/or the group leader could cancel the activity or decide that the group or a student will not participate in such excursion/ activity.
Reasons for early return
Breaking the rules listed below will lead to the expulsion of the stu- dent in question who will be sent back to Spain immediately. Should this situation arise, parents/guardians will be responsible to cover all expenses incurred.
1. Smoking and alcohol consumption (including wine or beer) is not allowed. The use and possesion of drugs not prescribed by a doctor is a violation of the law and will not be tolerated.
2. Shoplifting is considered a crime. Any student caught shoplif- ting will be returned to Spain.
3. No hitchhiking. This can be extremely dangerous. You are not allowed to drive cars or motorcycles or any motorized vehicle.
4. Students are totally prohibited from using firearms or any other weapons.
5. If you violate any Local, State or Federal law in the United States or Canada, you will be returned to Spain.
